Past 30 years, the rapid industrialization, urbanization, and economic growth in China. But in the meantime, people have also witnessed the environmental degradation of land, river, and natural resources as well as the rapid disappearing of local culture, and the disintegration of rural villages with most young people leaving to the cities working as hire labors, and has left women, children, and elders in the villages. The sustainable development of the villages is facing great challenges.
Education for Sustainable Development is to educate learners to build knowledge, awareness, and skills in key areas of sustainable development (environmental responsibility, economic vitality, social equity, cultural diversity) and to enable everyone to participate in promoting sustainable development in communities and rural areas.
