Asante (thank you) for continuing to support our work to restore the Mathare River in Migingo, Nairobi.
Not every reporting period brings a major milestone, but that does not mean the need has become any less urgent. Plastic waste and rubbish continue to accumulate along sections of the river, particularly after periods of heavy rainfall, making regular community-led clean-up activities as important as ever.
One of the things we have learned throughout this project is that lasting environmental change does not happen overnight. It requires persistence, local ownership and people who care enough to keep turning up. That is exactly what we continue to see from the Migingo community.
The project is about much more than removing waste. It is about helping local people recognise that a cleaner environment leads to healthier families, safer public spaces and greater pride in their community. Every bag of plastic removed from the river is one less source of pollution flowing downstream and one more step towards restoring this important waterway.
Your support has also helped demonstrate that environmental action starts at community level. Local residents have shown that they are willing to take responsibility for protecting their surroundings, and that sense of ownership is essential if improvements are to be sustained over the long term.
While there are no major infrastructure updates to share during this reporting period, the commitment of the community remains as strong as ever. We continue to work alongside local partners to encourage participation, raise awareness about plastic pollution and build on the progress already made.
Environmental projects are often measured by dramatic before-and-after photographs, but some of the most important achievements are less visible. They are seen in changing attitudes, stronger community engagement and the growing belief that local people can improve the place they call home.
Thank you for standing with the Migingo community. Your generosity continues to support a cleaner, healthier environment and gives local residents the confidence that they are not tackling this challenge alone. We look forward to sharing further progress with you as the project develops.
