On-Boarding New Teachers

Greetings all,

The Greenworks program has been busy over the past few months.  Our Beeworks (Brazil) and Clean Rivers (Ukraine) projects have been moving along well.  Although work has slowed down over the past few months (summer vacation for Ukrainian colleages and winter holidays for Brazilian colleagues), it will pick back up in the coming months.  You can follow their updates on their respective pages.

For the core Greenworks program, we're happy to report that we now have English, Portuguese, Spanish, Indonesian, and Ukrainian translations of the core project design curriculum, which helps students conceptualize projects through their entire lifecycle.  The Ukrainian edition was most recently used at Lviv Polytechnic with students in geosciences and tourism to help them conceptualize and propose projects focusing on the geoheritage of the Carpathian mountains.

Meanwhile, we are currently in Ternate, Indonesia, deep in a week-long teacher training workshop with our partners at Khairun University.  We are working with 30 teachers who are learning about active learning methodologies, extension education and projects, and how to adapt the Greenworks curriculum into the Indonesian college classroom.  We also had the opportunity to talk about our work on Radio Republik Indonesia - Ternate, which broadcasts in the North Maluki region.  Over the weekend, we'll be headed to the nearby island of Halmahera to help kickstart their Beeworks Indonesia project, which we hope will cross-pollinate with Beeworks Brazil for exciting new collaborations.

All these new members of Greenworks will need financial support.  The next best matching opportunity will be Giving Tuesday in December, so I hope you keep us in mind as you plan your end-of-year giving.  Our teachers are ready and excited to get started, but they need your continuing support!

With gratitude,

Lev
