Global Updates

Beeworks in Brazil

Greetings all,

It's been a busy second half of the year for the Greenworks program.  Read on to see all the Greenworks updates

In August, we conducted teacher training in Ternate, Indonesia.  30 teachers at Khairun University completed a week-long workshop on active learning, how to utilize the Greenworks project design curriculum in their classrooms, and networked with our international partners in Brazil, Ukraine, and the US.

A few weeks later, we conducted the same workshop with 10 teachers at Lviv Polytechnic University in Lviv, Ukraine.  We now have over 50 teachers certified in the basics of active learning and using project-based learning in their classrooms.

Additionally, we have translations of the curriculum available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Ukrainian for our partners, and their partners, to use.  We're looking forward to working with these partners in the upcoming year.

The Greenworks spin-off projects, Beeworks and Clean Rivers, have also been making good progress.

In Brazil, Beeworks saw the delivery of beehives to communities in Guapiruvu and Tekoa Nhanderu Porã (an indigenous Tupi-Guarani village close to Guapiruvu).  Gabriela, an expert on native bees, has been working closely with the members of the Guapiruvu community in teaching them how to manage and multiply the hives, which students from Campinas University were able to see last month as part of their studies on extension education.

We also helped Khairun University inaugurate Beeworks Indonesia, which will be coordinating activities with Beeworks in Brazil to share knowledge about native bees.

For Clean Rivers, students in Ukraine continued working on their projects and we visited the Sukel' River communities in September to observe the work that has been done and talk with the locals about the project, the history of the villages, and the war.  It was a very moving experience both for us and for our university partners.

As the year winds down and you look at end-of-year giving, I hope you consider supporting Greenworks for another year.  Your contributions help our partners around the world and with more funds, we will be able to support more partners in 2026 and beyond.

With gratitude,

Lev
