Greenworks Ukraine: Clean Rivers

Challenge

Despite the fact that Carpathian rivers are far from industrial centers, they still suffer from pollution. Primarily, this includes household waste, although sawmills are also common polluters. Local populations often create makeshift dumps on riverbanks, thus contaminating large areas. Such dumps are frequently observed at geological formations, which are often unique natural landmarks. The lack of sewage systems in villages leads to biological contamination of rivers as well.

Solution

This project will raise local awareness and implement practical solutions with local communities, educational institutions, and youth groups. We will gather information about pollution sources and its impact and through educational campaigns and community engagement, promote sustainable practices and proper waste management. Additionally, the project will utilize modern technology to identify pollution hotspots and natural landmarks to help mitigate river pollution and preserve local heritage.

Long-Term Impact

The potential long-term impact of this project includes reduced river pollution, improved community health, and the preservation of natural landmarks. Additionally, by integrating educational elements such as workshops, school programs, and educational campaigns, the project aims to raise awareness about environmental conservation and promote a culture of responsible stewardship among the local population. This educational aspect is crucial for ensuring the sustainability of the project.
