Challenge

South Africa's public schooling system struggles to meet the real interests and needs of the growing child, society, and the world of work, most especially for marginalised, under-resourced communities and their children. At the same time, most of our public schools serving marginalised communities are empty (or under-used) for 2/3 of the year.

Solution

By empowering teachers and parents to collaborate at school, home, and in the community, we achieve: engaged and supportive teaching and parenting; learning-rich and supportive homes; more actively participatory and creative practices in class and extra-murals; children's improved interest, attitude, and performance; healthier and more mindful lifestyles; upskilling, employability, and good citizenship; and, underlying, optimal use of existing grassroots assets through holistic development.

Long-Term Impact

Provides solid basis for scaling up innovatively practical and flexible practices that optimise existing school community agency and assets for: improving the local school and its organisational and community base; establishing learning-rich homes; facilitating meaningful parent and community involvement, development, and support, as well as participation in and accountability for governance.
