Visual health continues to be a service that benefits the health and economy of Guatemalan families. Despite some challenges such as the democratic demonstrations in October that did not allow us to offer the service,the promoters did tireless work to bring community service benefiting more than 600 people with problems of presbyopia, myopia, fleshiness, allergies and irritations. As a solution, GB offered free exams, low-cost glasses, advice and recipes for medicinal plants.

Our target audience is low-income people from the most remote communities.The goal for 2024 is to bring the service to more than 20 communities by carrying out a series of campaigns throughout the year and offering the service to 1,000 people.

Success Story

Juan, 63 years old, resides in the community of Simajhuleu, San Juan Comalapa. For several years, Don Juan dedicated himself to transporting people in a minibus, along rural dirt roads. Due to the poor condition of the road,the dust was the factor that caused damage to his eyes.For this reason he stopped wokring since there was a lack of access to eye health services and because he did not have the economic resources to address his eye health. 

When attending the campaign that GuateBuena carried out in his community, the diagnosis indicated that he suffered from advanced myopia, being on the verge of losing his sight; The glasses that were prescribed for him fit perfectly and with great joy he expressed that he was seeing again and was surprised to learn the cost of the glasses were within his reach.
