On June 3rd volcano Fuego erupted sending molten rock, ash and toxic gasses cascading through villages killing dozens and trapping families in ash covered homes. We have boots on the ground to aid families with solar power and water filters.
The volcano Fuego erupted on June 3rd flooding villages with molten rock, ash and toxic gasses. It is expected that hundreds have died; thousands have been evacuated and tens of thousands are without power or water.
We have started to give out small scale solar power systems. We now need funding to provide power and clean water to the thousands who lack such essential technologies. Our Mayan Power and Light team has boots on the ground to get much needed aid to those in need. This project will adhere to our "Radical Transparency" policy. We keep track of all donations, all materials and labor. We will get signatures or photos of everyone served and write up a final accounting for anyone to review.
The Guatemala Volcano Emergency project will help families get back on their feet. With power people can find relatives, see at night to repair their homes and have community meetings to advocate for their needs. In the long term the communities affected by the eruption of Fuego will recover more quickly. The Mayan Power and Light social venture businesses will have experience responding to an emergency so they will be able to respond faster to the next emergency.
