GWI United Nations Participation with Your Support

By Stacy Dry Lara | Executive Director

Dear Girls Education for Brighter Futures Donors,

Graduate Women International (GWI) is pleased to share updates on our recent advocacy initiatives, made possible with your generous support. In collaboration with the NGO Committee on the Status of Women, Geneva, GWI is sponsoring the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Beijing+30 Civil Society Forum on 19-20 October 2024, a vital platform for GWI supporters across Europe, North America, and Central Asia to review progress on gender equality 30 years after the landmark Beijing Platform for Action that stemmed from the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995. See the press release here: NGO CSW Geneva UNECE Beijing+30 Civil Society Forum

Also, GWI is cosponsoring the milestone 2-day event, Widows’ Rights Seminar, which will take place at the United Nations in Geneva on 17-18 October 2024. This important gathering will highlight the rights and challenges faced by widows globally, advocating for greater protection and recognition of their human rights. Read the press release here: Widow's Rights Seminar Press Release

On 11 October, International Day of the Girl, GWI launched a useful toolkit to demonstrate girls' role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The toolkit provides donors with practical resources and actionable guidelines to raise awareness and implement initiatives at the local and national levels. Aligned with this year's theme, "Girls' vision for the future," this toolkit serves as a source of inspiration for collective action for girls’ rights and towards achieving the SDGs. The toolkit can be accessed here: GWI International Day of the Girl Toolkit

Additionally, we co-hosted a side event under the auspices of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the International Day of Older Persons, focusing on the protection and empowerment of older women and discussing the idea of a new United Nations legal instrument to protect the rights of older persons.

Your continued support makes these critical efforts possible, and we thank you for standing with us as we work to uplift women and girls worldwide of all ages.

With gratitude,
Graduate Women International
