To provide rehab for people with spinal cord injuries, strokes, and other disabilities, empowering them to participate in activities and tasks that are vital in life!
The World Health Organization estimates that only 2% of people with disabilities in the developing world have access to appropriate rehabilitation. Around 10% of Haitians live with a disability and the need for better care is urgent. There are very few rehabilitation centres in Haiti and we are the only one offering spinal care in the North, with a population of over 1 million people.
HHA will establish a long term rehab centre at our hospital. Train and develop the skills of Haitian medical professionals/community workers and families. Facilitate a medical outreach team to offer on-going support to discharged patients
The project will offer life saving and transforming care, which can have a huge impact on the development and integration of disabled individuals into mainstream Haitian life.
This project has provided additional documentation in a Microsoft Word file (projdoc.doc).
