During the first six months of 2025, the team at Grace Rehabilitation Centre (GRC) made significant progress despite a challenging national context. A key highlight was the official launch of the Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) programme, aimed at extending care beyond the facility and into local communities. The newly established team—including a nurse, physiotherapist, agronomist, and general support worker—began conducting home visits to discharged patients, raising awareness about disability services, and promoting inclusion through outreach in schools, churches, and health centres.
One of the most transformative developments was the inauguration of the Oxygen Generation Plant at GRC. As the only reliable source of medical-grade oxygen in northern Haiti, the plant now serves trauma and rehabilitation patients on-site while also supplying local hospitals with affordable oxygen. This dual-purpose initiative not only fills a critical healthcare gap but also contributes to the long-term financial sustainability of the disability programme through local sales revenue.
Impact stories like that of Delonie, who regained speech and mobility following a stroke, underscore the deep, life-changing effects of the programme. Delonie had a stroke in December last year, which left him unable to walk or talk. Thanks to HHA, he received a wheelchair as well as specialised inpatient care and rehabilitation, which—within six months—enabled him to walk and talk again. He is now receiving outpatient care at GRC, along with home visits from our team to ensure he continues progressing on his journey toward independence. A true testament to the power of holistic care.
These milestones reflect the resilience and dedication of our staff and partners and pave the way for further growth in the second half of the year. Thank you for supporting this vital work!
