Safe Drinking Water is the most important resource for Balakot,KP,Pakistan. The area is losing its major resource which is essential for survival. The people who somehow survived after the deadly earthquake of 2005 in Balakot, now have to rely on dirty water which brings carbon, dirt and waste along with it raising death up to 30% in women and children.32 hand pumps in 08 mountainous rural areas will be installed to give access to safe drinking water to the residents especially children and women.
Before the deathly earthquake of October 2005(100,000 died) the people of the villages used to rely on water falls and river water which comes from the mountains.Due to heavy deforestation and the affects of the earthquake, the water now has been diluted with carbon, dirt and waste and the nearby residents especially children and women have to rely on it which has increased the death toll in the surrounding rural areas up to 30%.The most common diseases are diarrhea, allergy, hepatitis and typhoid.
AWARD will install now 32 handpumps in 8 rural areas(4 in one area) of Balakot,KPK. As the rural areas are located on the mountains therefore it is really hard to dig for water as the boring takes 3 times more time and cost to get access to the under ground water.AWARD will organize community meetings and will brief people about the initiative and precautions from diseases. The project would be the permanent source of safe drinking water for the residents especially children and women of 8 areas
*Carbon and Dirt free drinking water for the residents of 8 areas. *Prevention from deadly diseases such as typhoid,Diarrhea,Hepatitis and skin allergy. *30% decrease in the death rate of women and children. *Improvement in the health of the residents especially mothers, infants and newborn babies. AWARD Pakistan has successfully raised funds for 6 areas but with additional funds it can reach out the people of 8 rural areas as the drinking water problem is almost the same in every area.
