Sustainable Water Access for Children in Balakot

By Azeem Christopher | Project Leader

Access to safe drinking water remains a critical need for communities in Balakot, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. AWARD Pakistan has successfully installed 32 hand pumps across targeted rural mountainous areas. These hand pumps are now fully operational, providing reliable, carbon-free, safe drinking water to communities that previously relied on contaminated sources.

As a result, families, especially women and children, are experiencing improved health and reduced exposure to waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, typhoid, and hepatitis. The availability of clean water has significantly improved daily life by reducing the burden of collecting water from distant and unsafe sources.

The project team continues regular field visits to monitor functionality, provide technical support, and ensure proper maintenance of the hand pumps. Community members have also been trained in hygiene practices and system upkeep, creating a strong sense of ownership and long-term sustainability.

The impact of this initiative is already visible, with communities expressing relief and satisfaction. Children now have access to safe drinking water, supporting their health and well-being. AWARD Pakistan remains committed to sustaining and expanding this effort to ensure a healthier future for the people of Balakot.

The project continues to generate hope and positive engagement within the target communities. As implementation progresses, AWARD Pakistan remains committed to delivering sustainable, carbon-free drinking water solutions that will reduce disease, improve quality of life, and create healthier futures for children in Balakot. Continued support will enable us to complete installations and expand impact across vulnerable communities.
