7th Report on Carbon Free Water

By Azeem Christopher | Program Coordinator

Dear Friends

Thank you very much for all your donations and support. AWARD Pakistan has taken an initiative to raise funds for the installation of hand pumps and water wells. In its first phase, So far 3 water wells and 1 water hand-pump has been successfully installed and rest are under development in the rural areas of Balakot, District Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhaw with the support of the local community. It is been found with the study and through contacting the local Government that the water wells are much more effective than the hand pumps as it provides more amount of water than an average hand pump. Therefore due to the requests from the people, AWARD Pakistan has installed 3 water wells in the 3 areas of Balakot.

AWARD Pakistan’s Regional Coordinator Mr. Mustafa is regularly visiting the 4 areas (Jageer and Grang Maidaan, Shawaal Maidaan and Baisiyaan).During his recent visit he asked the communities about their experiences with the water facility. The committees are happy and using this facility responsibly. The local committees are putting their efforts to engage the communities and have promised to protect the facility at any cost. The community has also collected a certain amount on self-help basis as the maintenance fund the communities and committees to deal with the issue collectively (if happens)

According to the community "A significant decrease has been noticed in the diseases (among the children) after the people have started using the clean water. The water is fresh and healthy and is keeping them safe.

AWARD wants to bring this into your notice that an average cost of digging water well and installing a hand pump on mountainous area is 5 to 6 times higher than an average installation in Punjab and other plain areas of Pakistan. More Wells are required in the region to give more people access to safe drinking water.

 APPEAL:

In order to increase the number of areas, We request all our donors and supporters to donate us for this cause to provide children and women (living on the mountains), an access to the carbon-free and safe drinking water.
