Strong winds from Hurricane Dora fueled the flames in Maui and the Big Island. Urgent help is needed in Hawaii after the deadliest US wildfire in a century. In addition to the rising death toll, more than 4,500 Hawaiians are in emergency shelters, power outages are disrupting daily life, and homes and businesses have been destroyed. The historic community of Lahaina is in ruins. Some residents had to be rescued from the ocean where they fled to escape the raging fires. The situation has been described as "apocalyptic."
All donations to this fund will support wildfire relief and recovery efforts in Hawaii. Initially, the fund helps first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. As needs emerge, donations will support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in impacted areas, particularly those working with low-income, historically underserved communities.
