Plastic pollution is becoming an increasingly serious challenge in communities across Uganda. Plastic bottles, packaging materials, bags, and other plastic waste often end up in streets, drainage channels, wetlands, water sources, and open spaces. This creates environmental pollution and can contribute to blocked drainage, unhealthy surroundings, and risks to community wellbeing.
Through this project, Good Cause Foundation Uganda will work with community leaders, local organizations, institutions, youth, women, and other community members to develop practical and sustainable solutions to plastic waste.
The project will establish and strengthen community and institutional plastic waste collection and recycling centers where plastic waste can be collected, sorted, stored, and prepared for recycling. Rather than allowing valuable recyclable materials to become pollution, communities will be supported to view plastic waste as a resource that can be recovered and reused.
Our Objectives
What We Hope to Achieve
The project will help communities develop local systems for managing plastic waste instead of relying only on occasional clean-up activities. Community members will be encouraged to collect and sort plastic at source, making recycling more efficient and reducing the amount of waste that reaches public spaces and waterways.
Local recyclers will receive training and technical assistance so they can operate more effectively and safely. Where possible, organized recycling groups will be connected to recycling markets and other relevant partners, helping them transform environmental action into sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Community awareness campaigns will also encourage households, schools, businesses, and institutions to reduce littering, separate recyclable waste, and participate in local collection systems.
A Sustainable Community Solution
This project is about more than removing plastic from the environment. It is about building community ownership and practical systems that can continue beyond the project period.
By empowering local leaders and organizations, strengthening recyclers, establishing collection points, and educating communities, we can create a stronger foundation for a cleaner and healthier Uganda.
Your support can help us turn plastic waste into a community resource while protecting the environment and creating opportunities for local people.
Together, we can promote cleaner communities, stronger recycling systems, and a more sustainable future for Uganda.
