This project will provide Trauma Counseling Programs and Psycho-Social Support to 2500 children and youth that have survived civil war in Uganda and South Sudan. Music, Dance, Art and Play Therapy Programs will be provided by our trained staff to help children and youth express and share and alleviate trauma during civil war in northern Uganda and South Sudan. Trauma Counseling Training will also be provided for Teachers and Community Leaders to ensure that this program continues for others.
Uganda is hosting more than 1,400,000 refugees today, the majority of these refugees are from South Sudan. Civil unrest, tribal tensions and violence have led to many fleeing their homes and villages for safety. 65% of the refugees from South Sudan are children. Culturally relevant counseling and psycho social support is needed to avoid the further impact of the trauma they have experienced. Trauma can lead to depression, anxiety and even suicide if not addressed.
I Live Again Uganda has provided trauma counseling support to survivors of war and refugees since 2008. Our culturally relevant and life transforming program has been and continues to transform the lives of those that have survived civil war in northern Uganda and refugees from South Sudan. Music, dance, drama and art therapy will be utilized in this project to give children and youth a safe and engaging opportunity to share and alleviate their traumatic experiences of war.
Children are the future of every nation. By addressing and alleviating the trauma that children have endured due to war we can have hope for a healthy and bright future of their nation. Bringing different tribes together for this program will create a safe place for each individual and the tribe they represent to understand the perspective and pain that each one has endured due to war. This will bring greater healing and reconciliation for future generations.
