This project delivers hydroxyurea, essential medicines, vaccines, and mobile clinic care to 500 children with sickle cell disease in crisis-hit communities in Northern Nigeria. Persistent violent crises in this region have displaced families and shut down rural health centers, leaving these kids without lifesaving treatment. Hydroxyurea greatly reduces pain crises and hospital visits, and your support provides a full year of access to this critical care, which is unaffordable for most families
Nigeria faces the world's largest sickle cell burden. Persistent violent crises has shut down the already strained health centers. While all children in displacement camps need attention, children with sickle cell suffer the most with significantly reduced chances of survival. Hydroxyurea is a proven, therapy that significantly reduces vaso occlusive crises, transfusion needs, and organ damage in children with SCD. It is unaffordable for poor and displaced families
This project will provide monthly hydroxyurea and an integrated package of clinical, preventive, and community services for 500 children with Sickle Cell Disease in Benue and Nasarawa for 12 months. Hydroxyurea significantly reduces pain crises and the need for blood transfusion, giving these kids a chance to live healthy lives. The project will also deliver enhanced vaccination including pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV), Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine, meningococcal vaccine, et
Lower childhood morbidity and mortality from Sickle Cell Diseas and transfusion dependent thalassemia giving these children a chance to live normal lives and contribute to rebuilding their communities
