Project Title: Health for Every Home: Community Care in Southeast Nigeria
Location: Southeast Nigeria
Project Status: Ongoing

1. Project Overview

Health for Every Home: Community Care in Southeast Nigeria is an ongoing community health initiative focused on improving access to basic healthcare services for underserved populations. Across many communities in Southeast Nigeria, financial and geographic barriers prevent individuals from seeking timely medical care for common and preventable health conditions.

This project addresses these challenges by providing free essential medications, health screenings, and basic medical support to individuals who lack the financial means to access healthcare, ensuring that treatment is available to all regardless of income level.

2. Project Objectives

The objectives of this ongoing initiative are to:

  • Increase access to basic healthcare for underserved and low-income populations

  • Provide free drugs and medical care for common ailments

  • Detect and manage common non-communicable diseases through early screening

  • Reduce complications arising from untreated illnesses

  • Promote early intervention and overall community well-being

3. Beneficiaries and Reach (Current Impact)

Since the launch of the project:

  • Over 700 individuals have already received free medical care

  • Beneficiaries include children, adults, and elderly community members

  • Patients were treated from Oraifite, Anambra State, as well as other neighboring villages within the region

As the project continues, outreach efforts are expanding to reach additional communities in need.

4. Activities Implemented

Through ongoing community outreach programs, the project team has:

  • Conducted medical consultations and basic health assessments

  • Treated common ailments such as malaria, common cold, and minor infections

  • Carried out eye screenings to identify vision-related issues

  • Provided blood tests for diabetes and high blood pressure to support early detection and management

  • Distributed free medications and provided guidance on proper medication use

  • Worked closely with community volunteers to ensure effective coordination and trust

5. Impact and Early Outcomes

The project has already achieved meaningful early outcomes:

  • Over 700 individuals received timely treatment they otherwise could not afford

  • Early diagnosis of conditions such as diabetes and hypertension enabled referrals and lifestyle guidance

  • Prompt treatment of malaria and common illnesses reduced health risks and improved daily functioning

  • Communities reported increased awareness of preventive healthcare and the importance of routine screenings

6. Lessons Learned So Far

  • There is a strong and ongoing demand for free healthcare services in rural and peri-urban communities

  • Community-based outreach remains effective in reaching vulnerable populations

  • Preventive screenings play a crucial role in identifying health risks early

  • Continued funding is essential to sustain and expand impact

7. Next Steps

As the project progresses, the team plans to:

  • Expand outreach to more communities across Southeast Nigeria

  • Increase the number of beneficiaries served

  • Strengthen partnerships with local healthcare professionals and volunteers

  • Continue documenting health outcomes and community feedback

8. Appreciation

We extend our sincere gratitude to GlobalGiving donors, partners, volunteers, and community leaders for their continued support. Your generosity is enabling access to essential healthcare services and helping ensure that health truly reaches every home.
