Project Report | Feb 28, 2020
Emanuel, a little boy with a very braveheart

By Alba Luz Arroyave | Project Leader

From the municipality of Quibdo, northwest of Colombia, Wendy arrived at the Children's Heart Unit of our Children's Hospital, she is a mother full of hope in God and our doctors.

In her fourth month of pregnancy, she was referred to Medellin for a diagnosis of high blood pressure, here she was in some Clinics where she realized that Emanuel, her baby, was going to be born with heart disease. In other hospitals, there were no Intensive Care Units specialized in this medical condition, so it was referred to our San Vicente Fundacion Hospital. Here Emanuel was born 3 months ago.

From the moment of his birth, this little boy has been in the Infant Heart Unit, where he was diagnosed with Pulmonary Atresia without Interventricular Communication (CIV), a rare congenital heart disease in which there is no pulmonary valve and, therefore, there is no exit of the right ventricle to the lungs.

During your stay here, you have had different procedures, such as catheterization, which involves passing a thin, flexible tube to one side of the heart. He also had a fistula surgery, and a pulmonary tomography (CAT). From these interventions, Emanuel is stable, and his mother is very happy for the results and positive advances of her baby.

Wendy feels very safe and calm with the attention of our doctors and affirms that: “The Children's Unit of the Heart is a place full of life, hope, hope, peace, with a great-hearted human staff, the best equipment and the best facilities ”and thanks to God for coming to our Hospital. Fully trust doctors and a speedy and complete recovery for your baby.

With your help, many children like Emanuel, with congenital heart disease, can continue to grow healthy and happy, with a heart full of strength to keep going. We invite you to support our projects and share them with your family and friends.
