Thanks to the collective support of committed donors and partners, San Vicente Fundación Hospital strengthened its surgical capacity to better serve vulnerable elderly patients in Medellín and surrounding regions.
This project focused on improving access to safe, high-complexity medical care for older adults living in poverty—many of whom face chronic illnesses, degenerative conditions, and urgent surgical needs without the financial means to access specialized treatment. Resources supported the acquisition and implementation of advanced anesthesia equipment in the Adult Surgery Unit, ensuring safer procedures and reliable care for elderly patients requiring complex surgical interventions.
As a result, 2,167 elderly adults benefited directly from improved surgical conditions in 2025. These patients are part of a broader group of 10,290 individuals supported by the project, including seniors from both urban and rural areas who depend on the hospital as a referral center for high-complexity care. The upgraded technology contributes to reducing surgical risks, improving recovery outcomes, and preserving dignity during treatment.
This progress reflects the hospital’s 113-year commitment to providing healthcare for all—regardless of age, income, or place of origin—and highlights how collaboration through GlobalGiving helps protect the health, safety, and dignity of elderly patients who would otherwise be left without access to lifesaving care.
Thank you for being part of this shared effort to ensure that older adults receive the care they deserve.
Your continued support helps us sustain and expand this care, ensuring that more elderly patients can access safe, dignified treatment when they need it most.
