Melani is a brave little girl from Montería, a municipality located in the Caribbean region of Colombia. When she was born 9 months ago she could not breathe on her own, which is why she underwent some studies where she was diagnosed with Down syndrome and a severe congenital heart disease consisting of a hole in the tissue that separates the left and right sides of her heart.
Due to the complexity of her diagnosis, she was transferred to our Children's Hospital in Medellin where all our staff received her with open arms, providing her with the best care and treatment for a speedy recovery. Her mother Liceth tells us how the process has been since they arrived in the city: "we came with high expectations because we were told that here they had all the equipment and specialists to care for my girl, we have received a lot of attention and they have even done therapies so that she can eat".
Currently Melani and her mother are in a foster home waiting for a surgery to be performed in the coming days in order to improve her quality of life, allowing her to return home with her family soon.
With your contributions you make it easier for little ones like Melani to have the opportunity to have access to a complete and specialized care, where they can have a complete and successful recovery by the hand of our specialists.
