Your Donation Becomes a Life Story

By Carolina Ospina | Project Leader

"In the difficult moments of our health, support and love is the best medicine" - Esther Jaramillo

Every donation you make has the power to transform lives and create stories of hope, resilience, and gratitude. Your generosity becomes a lifeline for individuals like Esther, who at 79 years old is characterized as a very extroverted, cheerful, tender, and hopeful woman, thanks to the care she has received at the Hospital, she will be able to improve her health.

Esther was born in the municipality of Aguadas, Caldas. From a very young age, she was known for her love of music and dance, which is why she enjoys listening to the radio and being surrounded by many people, especially her family and grandchildren. It was in this same municipality where she met her husband, with whom she married at the age of 16 and had 10 children who give meaning to her life. Esther and her husband moved to Medellín more than 50 years ago with the illusion of finding better life opportunities, and although Esther's life has not been easy, she tells us that the challenges she has overcome have made her the strong and courageous woman she is today, who gives a smile to everyone she meets.

Esther became a widow more than 15 years ago and currently lives with one of her daughters in Popular #2 in Medellín. She has the privilege that 4 of her daughters live on the same block, which allows her to be visited very frequently by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, generating moments of great happiness and unforgettable memories.

One month ago, Esther was admitted to San Vicente Foundation Hospital Medellín due to very high fevers, which forced her to go to the emergency room, where she was received and hospitalized. At first, she tells us that she felt very sad to be in such a complicated situation, but as the days went by, the accompaniment of her daughters, grandchildren, doctors, and nurses gave her the strength to face her illnesses. Her daughter Gloria, who accompanies her for most of the day, tells us: "The attention of all the medical staff, the nurses, and even the cleaning staff has been excellent, and I thank them for the great treatment they have given my mother."

During the month she has been hospitalized, Esther has gone through different services of our hospital, such as the emergency room, surgical hospitalization, the ICU, and is currently in general hospitalization, which have provided her with high-complexity care with the best specialists without the need to move to another medical center. She is diagnosed with pulmonary aspergillosis, acute kidney injury, and anemia, and despite being subjected to so many studies, procedures, and treatments during this time, she has found the strength to move forward in the accompaniment, support, and humanized care. She is an oak of a woman, brave, and worthy of admiration.

What we highlight most from the conversation we had with Esther is the joy she gave us when we learned that she was going to be discharged due to her good health conditions. We hope she can enjoy her favorite activities and have the peace of mind of knowing that she has a Hospital that will always take care of her.

Thanks to the generosity of people like you, Esther and other older adults have access to a quality and excellent service. Your donations contribute to the acquisition of medical equipment, adult diapers, hygiene kits, and musical activities that bring comprehensive well-being to Esther, her family, and hundreds of patients who find hope and dignity in our Hospital.
