So much to tell you

Petrusa doing the speech
Petrusa doing the speech

First of all we finally have a new manager, our great Alex who will introduce himself to you with words that will make you understand how lucky we are to have him among us.

"The saying "Time flies when you're having fun" cannot be truer in my recently started work with Mammadu Trust.

Every day was filled with the little activities that matter. From getting to know some of sponsors like Gondwana and the pasta warehouses, to the various schools Mammadu students attend, from making supplies and purchases to representing our students at a PTA (Parents Teacher Association) meeting and many other logistical aspects.

Looking back after each day's work, I can see the impact of my contribution. This gives me a great sense of fulfillment.

My song remains: God bless the day I set my feet on Mammadu’s soil as a staff member, because so far I'm loving every little bit of it."

Alex  (Manager at Mammadu)

The same can be said for the new afternoon teacher, Teacher Kandjii. She also wanted to send you all a few words to express her great joy in joining Mammadu's family.

"My first day in Mammadu was a beautiful, splendid, excellent day. The people I met, Mrs Agnes and Meme Dina are full of love. The atmosphere is pleasant, the center is spotless and the kids are well behaved. I'm really happy to be able to spend my days with them. They treat me with special respect and this gives me the energy for my life, because they are good people, with the best intentions, and all this makes me feel good."

Teacher Kandjii

Another great piece of news that has characterized these first months of the year in Mammadu is the return of the volunteers, who are invaluable for the daily life of the Centre. We had international volunteers like Anna and Jael from Switzerland, but also local volunteers, like Vistoria, something that has great relevance for the inclusion of Mammadu in the social life of the city of Windhoek.

The Coptic Church of Namibia, is truly very much involved in extending help to the community and uses Mammadu Center for their health reach out programs. In April a number of doctors spent a whole day at Mammadu not only for our children but as I said for the community too, around 300 people were helped. One classroom was dedicated for dentistry, unfortunately they only pulled out teeth, an other class room was for GP adult and child and the last classroom was the pharmacy as they handed out the medication too. A thank you goes to all the doctors and a special thank you to Father John who facilitated this visit.

On the 22nd of March Mammadu together with other welfare organization was invited to present itself to the public. 10 minutes maximum to conquer the audience. I thought that it’s time for one of the bigger kids to do this presentation, as they know Mammadu best. Petrusa who does a lot of debate classes at school was my choice and I couldn’t have chosen better. Not only is he very talented in speaking in front of an audience, he infused his speech with so much love for Mammadu and his experience that I couldn’t have done any better. He brought me to tears and I’m very proud of him. It was truly very emotional and he got a lot of applause too. Thanks to this event we are now networking with other organization and a very exciting new event is coming up.

Ps On the picture Alex is standing behind Petrus as a moral pillar.

We celebrated Valentine’s Day, as the day of love and all dressed up in red and white.

Kevin, who is not attending Mammadu anymore, finished school and visited. He is just such a huge young man now, but his smile hasn’t changed and should be included for any feel good therapy.

Vini went to a school dance with Hawaiian theme, she was so pretty and happy.

For Independence day the 21st March many activities took place, here a fashion show in traditional clothes

Balbina, poor girl fell from the swing and smashed a bit her face. All good in the meantime but as we can’t prevent the kids from falling we bought a load of sand for the playground so at least they fall softer!

February was a month of mourning for all of us, the whole nation. Our beloved President Dr Hage Geingob passed away. It’s Namibia’s first president to leave the nation and it was a big shock. Rest in peace dear President.

Our sweet teacher Lind is from April on maternity leave, after two daughters the son is coming. All the best to Teacher Linda.

We decided to celebrate the birthdays once a month, as the kids are so many. All cakes are backed by Alex, who is really very good in that and we all love his cakes. Even Meme Dina. Benjamin looks so cool and proud in this new school blazer, his birthday gift.

I also wish to introduce you to our Chairman Mr Hiiho and our Vice Mr Kwenani, both are just great and I am thankful to have them in Mammadu Trust.
