Dear friends:

We are very pleased to greet you.

We present the following report corresponding to our project "The health care of tsotsile indigenous children, in Chiapas Mexico" that covers the period from October to December 2023.

One of the strategies with which the Sanando program works are the surveillance groups, within these groups is the Growth and Development group that provides comprehensive medical care (medical consultation, nutritional monitoring, dietary counseling, breastfeeding, alarm data for preventable diseases) to families of girls and boys from 0 to 5 years old.

This period we served 118 users of which:

106 minors were treated in the 6 locations, 12 children in the San Cristóbal de las            Casas clinic.

148 medical consultations were granted, with an average of 1.25 consultations per user in the period.

The 148 queries are classified by their surveillance groups status as follows:

  • 18.2% are minors recruited for the first time in the consultation.
  • 75.7% belong to the surveillance group.
  • 6.1% graduate after reaching 5 years of age.

In this surveillance groups there are 5 diagnostic statuses:

Normal nutritional status, overweight or obesity, chronic malnutrition (low height for age), acute malnutrition (low weight for height) and acute chronic malnutrition (low height for age and low weight for height), which in this period distributed as follows:

  • 46.6% are in normal nutritional status
  • 52% in Chronic malnutrition
  • 1.4% in acute chronic malnutrition. (2 consultations were presented to the same user for acute malnutrition who will continue under special observation)

Within this surveillance group we focus on providing primary care to users under 6 months of age and pregnant women who are in the 3rd trimester of their pregnancy or in the postpartum period, since these are stages fundamental for the proper development of the newborn, so it is essential to insist on maintaining exclusive breastfeeding during this period and after 6 months start with complementary feeding.

Strengthening the health of children is our priority!

Thank you very much for your participation and support

Queridos amigos:
