This young man, Christian at age 17, has been in the hospital for 9 months. He developed osteomyelitis in the large bone of his leg. This means his bone is infected. Because of the healthcare system he was not able to recieve top notch antibiotics so he did not heal. It took 9 months for him to get to the top of the list and receive the surgery he needed. Because he is from a single parent household he is on his own for the most part in the hospital. The day we met him he was on his way to surgery to scrape out the infected bone. No one was with him to face this monumental life changing surgery. We had the priveledge of entertaining him until the stretcher arrived.
He was in sugery for most of the day and we are hopeful he will now finish the healing process. If this is not successful we are will use funds to get him the help he requires.
Last week, I was able to see him again, he seems to be making remarkable progress. He is positive in the worst situation and seems to be pivotal to encouraging the younger children in the ward.
We connected on a whole new level as he believed he would never walk again. I was able to tell him that I had the same diagnosis and was told the same thing. I danced around his bed as I told him and a smile lit up his face.
Thank you for your help with people that have no hope, it is truly remarkable.
In gratitude,
