How Do We Learn?
Books, teachers, watching others, experiencing. One of the best ways to learn is from a person older than us. Experienced and wise. That is why caring for the Elderly is so important. Honoring what they have spent their entire lives teaching to their children, families and friends.
It gives us great pleasure to go to a place where the person is physically unable to leave their habitat. After a lifetime of caring for others, they are no longer able to care for themselves. In Honduras it is harder than in the US. In the US. In the US you can drive to the person's house or go visit them in the hospital or nursing home. Unfortunately, many elderly have no one that cares enough to visit them here in the US and in Honduras.
Our team spends one day a month climbing mountains, traversing creek beds and getting around the rocks. The paths are narrow and navigation is difficult. Imagine how trapped they feel. They could starve before anyone thinks to bring them food. Our Elderly visits include food, a Bible, and a physical medical assessment along with vitamins and a treatment for their ailment.
What means the most to the Elderly when asked? None of the things we have listed. What they value the most is TIME. That we visited and spent time and did not hurry. It has caused us to re-evaluate my use of our time. How did we spend it? We did not hurry through anything.
How do we handle the elderly. Do we hurry through our visit. Do we forget those that have gone before us because of our busy lives? We challenge you to find some time for someone other than yourself. I promise you will not regret it.
Thank you for your donations that enable us to take care of people that get no care or attention.
Serving with you, gayle
