SOMETIMES THINGS ARE NOT IDEAL. THIS MONTH I MADE A TRIP TO PIDGEON CAYE IN HONDURAS. A TINY ISLAND THAT HAS NO LAND. JUST HOUSES STICKING OUT OF THE WATER. A SIDEWALK RUNNING END TO END AND EVERYTHING ON POSTS IN THE SHALLOW OCEAN FLOOR.
OVER 900 INHABITANTS IN THIS OFF THE MAP LOCATION THAT DESPARATELY NEED RESOURCES INCLUDING MEDICINE AND HEALTHCARE. ENOUGH MEDICINE WAS BROUGHT TO LAST UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR. FOR DIABETICS, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND ACUTE ILLNESSES.
IT WAS NECESSAY TO EDUCATE THE "NURSE" ON THE ISLAND IN THE USE OF THE MEDICATIONS LEFT BEHIND. THIS REQUIRES ALOT OF TIME, THOUGHT AND WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS AND REVIEW OF CHARTS. ALSO IT WAS NECESSARY TO BE SURE SHE UNDERSTOOD WHAT SHE WAS LEARNING. ALREADY EXPERIENCED WITH ISLAND LIVING OFF OF THE MAP, SHE DID WELL.
THESE PEOPLE WILL NOW HAVE WHAT THEY NEED UNTIL WE CAN GO AGAIN OR ANOTHER GROUP DECIDES TO SHOW UP. A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE.
SERVING HIM WITH YOU,
GAYLE SAVAGE DAVIDSON
