The Clinica de Esperanza is a full time medical clinic available year long for people in need of Medical care. The Clinic also wishes to provide healthcare wherever it may be needed. Many opportunities present themselves in Honduras during Torch trips, village medical clinics and just by word of mouth.
One of the places we were blesssed to become a part of was a disabled childrens home "Rosa Elena Bonilla de Lobo." This place is home to 31 children that are neurologically impaired and disabled. They are not wanted by their parents and are left to be cared for by a government ill equipped to handle the challenge of caring for so many with so little.
We were very impressed. They have only been open 3 months and the place is immaculate, the caregivers are attentive and obviously the kids love them. Many children were experiencing seizures simply because they do not have enough funds to buy their medicine. They also did not have enough food to feed everyone which was provided by our Torch team.
GlobalGiving donations and the donations of a local pharmacy "The Medicine Shoppe" provided enough medications to last all of the kids 8 months. This will be a great help to the care of these children. The nurse and administrator were present to receive donations and receive instructions.
Also it was my great pleasure to deliver the medications and supplies to meet with a Physical therapist, MD, Nurse, Caregivers, and Administrator for a symposium teaching the members of the staff how to provide therapy for these kids and provide equipement to use during rehabilitation process.
