Broken Hearts and Healing

By LaRelle Catherman | Executive Director

Devastating News! But there is hope for Vietnamese parents and their children.MEDRIX wants to share that hope! A real family with a real story!

Sometimes the smallest and most unexpected happenings can throw us to the ground, trample us and cause us to question life. Moving forward seems impossible – the devastation is too big to know what to do. You feel trapped. Let me give you a true-life story:

A newborn baby was born a few hours ago. The family was excited and joyful.

In their joyful moment the doctor walks into the room telling them the post-delivery examination of their newborn baby has been completed.

Smiles all around:

Then the doctor tells the new family their sweet little one has been diagnosed with a heart defect; an “abnormality” is what the doctor called it. Suddenly joy is gone! They feel their own “heart dropping” with sadness. A flurry of emotions hit them like many bricks being thrown at them.   There is sudden anxiety.

Questions fly. They feel powerless

“How can an infant have a heart problem…they we just born.

“What does it mean to have a heart abnormality?”
“But… how can this happen?”
“Is this my fault? Have I done something wrong?”
“Will my child live?”
“How can I afford the surgery?”
“I must work to provide food for my family.”
“How will I support my family while our little one has heart surgery?”
“How can I care for our child and still put food on the table?”
“Will our little one recover?”
“Will they be okay?”
“What am I to do? How will we manage?”
“Oh… is this really real?”
“Will we truly have help?”
“How… how… how…?”

With hearts that hurt, and eyes that are now wet with tears, they are told “There is hope!”

Hope? Now there is confusion. What are they hearing? What hope?

The doctor explains the heart condition can be corrected with proper surgery…And: there is an organization called MEDRIX that helps support the cost of heart surgery to provide an improved life for their child. And, MEDRIX works with the hospital to help families, just like theirs.

How is this possible?

MEDRIX helps by providing charitable resources (i.e. financial help) through the Charity Department of the hospital.   MEDRIX has provided resources for over 350 children’s surgery and their recovery period.

Suddenly, part of the burden is lifted. The doctor continues to explain about the heart defect and the necessary surgery. Now tears of hope trickle down the cheeks of the parents!

Life can sure be tough, yet kindness, and blessings do exist. In a single moment, a family’s greatest joy can turn into fear—but your compassion can help restore them from fear to hope.

Supporters like you help MEDRIX lift hearts from the burden of despair, to hope, and likelihood of complete healing.

How does this work?

MEDRIX is a 501(c)(3), meaning MEDRIX; a not-for-profit organization. Your donations will only be used to help little ones who need lifesaving heart surgery.   Your generosity makes a remarkable difference for children in Vietnam needing lifesaving heart surgery.   Will you give from your heart to theirs? Thank you for your generous support!
