Your continued generosity and support for MEDRIX has enabled us to sponsor 2 recent corrective heart surgeries for kids in need in Vietnam. In late 2015 we approved two teenage boys, Duc and Kpiuh, for life-changing heart surgery that would allow them to pursue healthy futures full of adventure and promise. Both boys have undergone surgery and were discharged in the early months of 2016, ready to face a new life of health thanks to you! Both of the boy's families had a similar message to you and the rest of our donors:
"[we send our] deepest thanks to the donors for giving [them] a new life."Your generosity truly has given Duc and Kpiuh a new life. Take a minute to read Duc and Kpiuh's stories below: your gift has had such an impact not just on their lives, but on countless other children and young adults who now have a lifetime of hope, health and happiness ahead of them:
When MEDRIX met 16 year old Duc in October 2015, he was an extremely ill boy: it was difficult for him to speak and he was visibly weak and very thin. His mother was very worried about his prognosis of congenital heart defect because he had an aunt with heart issues also, and another aunt who died during child birth. The decision for surgery was not an easy one to make for Duc’s family. For Duc however, he was “not afraid” because he knew that surgery would enable him to live a full and rich life like his friends. His dreams are to go to college and become a computer programmer.
Now thanks to the generosity of MEDRIX donors, Duc has a new lease on life: he finally received the corrective surgery he needed on Christmas Day, 2015. It went well and Duc was discharged from the hospital on January 6, 2016. His family sends their “deepest thanks to the [MEDRIX] donors for giving him a new life”. Now Duc will be able to finish high school and be healthy enough to pursue college–something that would have been impossible before.
Similar to Duc, 17 year old Kpiuh Hieu was facing a life of uncertainty and poor health: with heart pain and extreme fatigue and weakness, his future looked bleak. Kpiuh belongs to the Gia Rai ethnic minority group that live in rural villages in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Without the ability to perform any manual labor due to his heart defects, Kpiuh’s role in his community and ability to seek a better life was precarious.
Thanks to the great support of MEDRIX donors, Kpiuh was able to receive corrective heart surgery in January and was discharged from the hospital on February 4th! He was discharged just in time for Vietnam’s large TET celebrations for Lunar New Year. Because of your generous donations, MEDRIX was able to partner with other organizations in Vietnam to provide a better life for children like Kpiuh, who now have hope for the future.Kpiuh and his family extend their sincere thanks to MEDRIX donors, and thank you for giving him a new life. His TET celebration will be even brighter and happier this year than ever before!
Thanks to your generosity, MEDRIX is able to continually sponsor corrective heart surgeries as needed. Without your support, we wouldn't have been able to help these kids who desperately needed surgery right then and could not wait any longer. Congenital heart defects greatly affect the quality of life that children are able to live, often leaving them unable to pursue their education or enjoy childhood.
