MEDRIX is in the home stretch of our heart surgery campaign to fund five life-changing heart surgeries in Vietnam, and we could not be happier! The generosity and passion of our donors has touched the entire MEDRIX team and reminds us that on a truly global scale: we are all in this together! We had a huge week for donations last week, and sincerely thank all of the people who helped make it possible. Within one week, we raised $2475--that is literally 3x the amount we had raised already. MEDRIX supporters, you're amazing!
With heart disease being the most common birth defect and many children from rural villages in Vietnam living in extreme poverty, making a difference can seem like a daunting task. MEDRIX didn't start out with heart surgeries specifically in mind. The goal was to help and serve neighbors in Vietnam wherever it was needed. Once the need for heart support was recognized, MEDRIX jumped right in to help where able. Many heart defects require simple surgical corrections that would be considered "no big deal" in the United States. These simple corrections are often too expensive for many Vietnamese families--they often borrow whatever they cannot cover from family and friends. Even then, the additional expenses--lodging, transportation to Hue, food, clothing, etc.--keep families from being able to pursue healthy futures for their children. Kids with heart defects in Vietnam are usually unable to pursue any education because children walk or bike to school, activities which are too rigorous.
With the generosity of our supporters, MEDRIX is able to change the future of entire families in Vietnam. Through this campaign alone, we have received enough to fund three life-changing heart surgeries within the next calendar year. With one week left of our GlobalGiving campaign, what else can we accomplish? World Heart Day is this Wednesday, September 25--what better way to make a difference in global heart health than helping MEDRIX change the life of a child in Vietnam...forever! Share our project page on Facebook and tell your friends and family why this campaign touched your heart! Thank you always for supporting MEDRIX's mission to serve the people of Southeast Asia through medical and education projects.
