In October, Executive Director LaRelle Catherman and Project Managers Pham Thi Thu Ha and Alicia Moore traveled to Vietnam with the hope to plan for 2016 heart surgeries and other medical and education projects. While in Hue, we received notice that there was one sixteen year old boy who really needed surgery much sooner, and the Cardiac Charity Department at Hue Central Hospital asked if we could please consider sponsoring part of his surgery right then. Several days later, we received another call asking for immediate assistance for a five year old girl also suffering from congenital heart defect, and would be going into surgery later that same day.
Thanks to your generosity, MEDRIX is able to continually sponsor corrective heart surgeries as needed. Without your support, we wouldn't have been able to help these kids who desperately needed surgery right then and could not wait any longer. Congenital heart defects greatly affect the quality of life that children are able to live, often leaving them unable to pursue their education or enjoy childhood.
The boy that we were able to sponsor, Duc, has dreams to attend college and become a computer programmer. His mom, while very worried, also hopes for this, and hopes that this surgery will give him a new opportunity at life. Without the surgery, he wouldn't have been able to pursue college and probably would have had to find work as a manual laborer, further aggravating his heart problems. Thanks to you, Duc underwent life-changing surgery while MEDRIX was in Hue and is recovering nicely.
The young girl that we sponsored, My, was only 5 years old and in desperate need of corrective surgery. The MEDRIX staff was able to visit her after surgery, where she recovered quickly and is now healthy and has been able to return home with her family.
Your continued support and donations have made surgery possible for kids like Duc and My! In this week of American thanksgiving, MEDRIX and the families we support in Vietnam are giving thanks for the generosity of our donors who keep our programs running and provide new opportunities for life for so many. We sincerely thank you.
