Hearing Aids for Disadvantaged Schoolchildren

By Joy Ojochogwu Etubi | Project Leader

Dear donors,

We sincerely thank you for the support received so far toward the “50 Hearing Aids for Disadvantaged School Children” project. While your contributions are appreciated, the funds received will not be enough to roll out the project. We appeal for additional support so that we can begin providing these essential devices to children who need them.

Many children in poor communities struggle to follow lessons because of untreated hearing loss. They often cannot hear teachers clearly, which makes learning difficult. Without help, these children risk falling behind in class, feeling isolated, and losing confidence. Parents may be unable to afford hearing aids, and local health facilities may lack proper screening and support.

This project will identify children with hearing challenges through school-based screening and provide 50 hearing aids tailored to each child’s needs. Trained staff will fit the devices, teach children and families how to use and care for them, and conduct follow-up visits to ensure the devices continue to work effectively. With proper hearing, children can participate fully in lessons, engage with peers, and regain confidence in school.

By improving hearing, this project will help children perform better academically, reduce isolation, and support clearer communication. In the long term, these children will have better social interactions, increased learning opportunities, and greater chances for success in school and beyond. Additionally, the initiative will raise awareness among teachers and families about the importance of early hearing care.

Your additional support can help us start this project and give these children the tools they need to thrive in school and life. Every contribution brings us closer to brighter futures and empowered learners.

Kind regards,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
