Hearing Loss Continues to Hold Children Back

By Joy Ojochogwu Etubi | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Thank you for supporting the 50 Hearing Aids to Disadvantaged School Children project. We are grateful for your kindness and concern for children whose education is being affected by hearing difficulties.

Many children with hearing loss face challenges that are not immediately visible. In classrooms, they struggle to hear instructions, participate in discussions, or follow lessons at the same pace as their classmates. Some are unfairly labeled as inattentive or slow learners when the real issue is that they cannot hear properly.

The support received so far is appreciated. However, the funds available at this stage are not enough to begin project implementation. Additional donations are needed before we can carry out screenings, procure hearing aids, and begin fitting beneficiaries with the devices they need.

The project plans to identify children with hearing challenges through school-based screening activities and provide hearing aids that match their individual needs. Families will also receive guidance on proper use and care of the devices, while follow-up visits will help monitor progress and adjustment.

For children living with untreated hearing loss, the consequences extend beyond academics. Communication becomes difficult, confidence may decline, and social interaction with friends and teachers can become challenging. Early intervention can make a meaningful difference in both learning and daily life.

We remain hopeful that with increased support, the first phase of this project can begin soon. When implementation starts, we look forward to sharing updates, photographs, and stories from the children whose lives will be improved through your generosity.

Thank you for helping children move closer to a future where they can hear, learn, and participate more fully in school and community life.

Warm regards,

Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
