A community on the outskirts of the Panama Metropolitan Area was waiting for hearing care and health.
During the tour of Hearing Health #19, coordinated by the Oir es Vivir Foundation, otolaryngology specialists and speech therapists were given the task of caring for 133 children between the ages of 1 to 17 years, last October 2022. In this activity, 21 heap washes were performed and 35 children who failed to pass the collective audiometry test and 15 children who failed the otoacustic emission test were detected.
The second phase of this project was implemented by relocating these children back to the FOV Clinic to perform deeper hearing tests and rule out any false results. The children who were confirmed that they did not pass the tests were referred to the Hospital del Niño to be evaluated by specialists and to see what is the most appropriate treatment for each of them.
Two children were found to need hearing aids. Thanks to your support, an early detection was carried out that will allow these children, with the work of the foundation, to change their quality of life and have the opportunity to live a childhood hearing the voice of their parents.
We will keep you informed of the upcoming tours that are coming this year.
Best regards!
