Coming Soon- Sponsor An IDP Child program

By Mitch Lewis | Executive Director

Mali is now in the midst of their rainy season. To the people living at the Faladje IPD Camp, at the garbage dump, this brings a new level of hardship. Their shelters, which are made of trash, offer no protection, and they are constantly exposed to the elements. This will lead to an increase in disease throughout the camp. Our clinic continues to offer free medical treatment to them as well as the IDPs in Zantiguila, which is where ATEG will relocate the Faladje families in the Fall.

While we wait for the rains to stop, ATEG is developing a new program whereby our donors can “Sponsor an IDP Child.” The program is focused on improving the well-being of children in need, especially the most vulnerable. Child sponsorship pairs one sponsor with one child. Sponsoring a child, helps provide essentials like clean water, nutrition and education, to the child as well as to their community.

Growing up in poverty on the garbage dump, these children face tough challenges: hunger and malnutrition, limited access to education and medical services, social discrimination and isolation. But with support from our donors, we can help children get the nutrition, health care, education, and life skills they need to create lasting change in their lives and for their communities.

When we launch the program donors will have the opportunity to meet the children via photos and video and select a child whose story, interests, and circumstances resonate with them. Through sponsorship, donors will have the opportunity to build a relationship with the child through letters, photos, videos and possibly a Zoom call. Through sponsorship donors will get to watch the impact of their donation on the child, their family, and their entire community.

Sponsorship will happen through a $25 monthly recurring donation on GlobalGiving. The sponsorship donation is pooled with other sponsor donations for maximum impact to fund programs that benefit the sponsored child and their community.

Sponsoring an IDP child in need, allows donors to build a special relationship that encourages the child with hope for the future.
