Our Senior Citizen Workshop continuously focuses on providing programs and services that not only meet the needs of our senior residents at the Heliopolis Elderly Center but also provide an avenue to help them meet with other members of the community and engage with each other socially. Our dedicated staff and extraordinary volunteers plan, develop, and coordinate The Senior Citizen Workshop programs and services for our active and independent seniors.
Our workshops include helping our seniors how to become active in their community by becoming a part of our board and helping to make decisions on how to improve the Heliopolis Elderly Center through their insights. Classes are held in our community center classrooms that host around 10 people. We have in-person as well as online classes for our Seniors who are frailer.
Our seniors are encouraged to improve their Portuguese in order to know more about their country and community. They will also be educated on becoming responsible citizens and go through all the steps in preparation. Our weekly classes and workshops also give free counsel on how our seniors can care for their personal affairs.
One of our seniors, Efegenia, said about our Senior Citizen Workshop, "I have learned so much about my community in the last few months. I have always wanted to help others and volunteer within our program. Since I joined our workshops, I have been able to speak publically and be more active within our community!"
