Dear donors

We're please to share this kind report on Empowering Rural Grassroots LGBTIQ with Cake Baking Skills Training: A Project by Mbarara Rise Foundation

Executive Summary:
Mbarara Rise Foundation implemented a project aimed at empowering rural grassroots members of the LGBTIQ community through cake baking skills training. This initiative addressed the economic empowerment and social inclusion of marginalized groups while promoting self-sufficiency and fostering acceptance within their communities. By leveraging the power of skill-building in a traditionally profitable industry like baking, the project sought to create sustainable livelihoods and combat discrimination faced by LGBTIQ individuals.

Introduction:
In many rural areas, LGBTIQ individuals encountered various forms of discrimination and marginalization, leading to limited access to employment opportunities and social support networks. Mbarara Rise Foundation recognized the importance of economic empowerment and social integration for this vulnerable population. Through the implementation of a cake baking skills training program, the foundation aimed to equip LGBTIQ members with valuable skills that could enhance their livelihoods and promote acceptance within their communities.

Objectives:

1. Provided comprehensive cake baking skills training to rural grassroots LGBTIQ individuals.
2. Empowered participants to generate income through the production and sale of baked goods.
3. Fostered social inclusion and acceptance of LGBTIQ individuals within their communities.
4. Created a sustainable model for economic empowerment and skill development among marginalized groups.

Project Activities:

1. Conducted needs assessment through surveys and interviews to understand the specific needs and challenges faced by rural LGBTIQ individuals in relation to economic empowerment and social inclusion.
2. Developed a tailored curriculum covering basic and advanced techniques in cake baking, hygiene and safety practices, business management, and marketing strategies.
3. Facilitated hands-on training sessions led by experienced bakers and business experts to impart practical skills and knowledge to participants.
4. Provided ongoing mentorship and support to participants as they established and grew their baking businesses, including access to resources, networking opportunities, and guidance on overcoming obstacles.
5. Organized awareness campaigns and outreach activities to promote understanding and acceptance of LGBTIQ individuals within rural communities.

Expected Outcomes:

1. Participants acquired proficient cake baking skills and knowledge in business management and marketing.
2. Participants established successful baking businesses, generating sustainable income for themselves and their families.
3. Increased acceptance and support for LGBTIQ individuals within rural communities, leading to reduced stigma and discrimination.
4. Creation of a replicable model for empowering marginalized groups through vocational training and entrepreneurship development.

Evaluation and Impact Assessment:
The project’s impact was evaluated through quantitative and qualitative measures, including pre- and post-training assessments, participant surveys, income generation tracking, and community perception surveys. Regular monitoring and evaluation activities ensured that the project remained responsive to the evolving needs of participants and effectively addressed its objectives.

Conclusion:
Mbarara Rise Foundation’s initiative to empower rural grassroots LGBTIQ individuals through cake baking skills training represented a significant step towards fostering economic independence, social inclusion, and acceptance. By investing in the potential of marginalized communities and promoting skills development, the project improved the lives of participants and contributed to building more inclusive and equitable societies. With continued support from GlobalGiving donors, this project had the potential to create lasting positive change for LGBTIQ individuals in rural areas.
