For four years, Aku community in Okigwe, Imo State, has endured repeated violent attacks that displaced families, destroyed homes, and disrupted schools. Women, children, and youth face trauma, hunger, and lost livelihoods. Empower Future Initiative's urgent response delivers food, hygiene kits, school support, skills training, and school reconstruction-helping families recover now, regain dignity, and rebuild a resilient, thriving community.
Aku community, once a peaceful ancestral home, has suffered over 800 homes burned, markets and churches destroyed, and families forced into displacement. Children dropped out of school, women lost livelihoods, and youth face uncertainty. Trauma, hunger, and insecurity persist. Without immediate support, thousands remain vulnerable to prolonged displacement, poverty, and long-term psychological harm.
EFI's urgent response through this project will deliver food and hygiene kits to displaced families, re-enrolls children in school, provides uniforms and learning materials, and trains women and youth in tailoring, ICT, catering, and agribusiness. Provide startup kits and micro-grants to empower a minimum of 200 trainees to regain livelihoods. Reconstruction of schools to restore education and strengthens community recovery.
This project directly supports over 10,000 people, helping women and children regain stability, hope, and dignity. Education is restored, skills enable income generation, and homes and schools are rebuilt. By addressing trauma and strengthening livelihoods, Aku community will become resilient to future crises, ensuring children can learn, families can thrive, and the community can be restored as a safe, flourishing home.
