The project aims to enable 120 vulnerable girls from Kibera slums to successfully complete their secondary school education. The girls will be supported with school fees, school uniforms and sanitary products. Keeping these girls in school will help curb some of the challenges they encounter such as school dropout, Sexual and Gender-based violence, early marriage and early pregnancy hence reducing their vulnerability and enabling them to fulfill their potential.
MAD Sisters is located in Kibera which is the largest urban slum in Africa and has acute development needs and challenges that disproportionately affect girls. There is a Low transition rate of girls from primary to secondary education due to poverty which increases their vulnerability and exposes them to risks of experiencing school dropout, Sexual and Gender-based violence, early marriage and early pregnancy. Lack of education is a barrier that hinders girls from reaching their full potential.
MAD Sisters will provide 120 girls with school fees in boarding schools, full school uniforms and a supply of quality sanitary products throughout their education. Driven by our community needs, these are key essentials that are needed to comfortably and successfully keep a girl in school.
By keeping the girls in school, we are bridging the gender gap in education and reducing teenage pregnancy, child marriage, sexual and Gender-based violence and school dropouts. Offer support to help girls to build resilience and develop healthy identities and attitudes about themselves. Development of self-confidence girls who are able to advocate for their needs and become change agents in the community.
