Summary

The project will save 150 poor widows,in Mingkaman,who lost their husbands during the war from facing GBV by their late husband's relatives who forcefully marriage without respect. Orphans will be able to join schools in steady of being at a high risk of joining child labour,recruited by armed groups and forced into marriage due to poor broken family systems. SMA will provide basic business skills,income generating support,parenting skills and referral pathways to widows and their orphans.

Challenge

According to UN-Peace keeper,Since 2018,Mingkaman has hosted over 114,000 internally displaced persons who have been biometrically registered,other 31,000 people are estimated to have arrived after the biometrical registration,majority say that they have returned to South Sudan from refugee camps in East Africa,this project will support 150 windows who are living in extreme poverty, frustrated for their children have ended up on streets for survival,and forced in marriage by their relatives.

Solution

SMA provides business skills/entrepreneur skills, parenting skills, phys-cosocial support and referral pathways in Mingkaman- Awerial county. Widows will be equipped with business skills, trained with good parenting skills,and they will receive business start up capital. While children will receive phys-co social support, family mediation services and referral pathways.

Long-Term Impact

Empowering vulnerable windows with Incoming generating activities,will reduce the causes of GBV among widows and their children especially girls, it will lead to economic independence which will result into trauma healing and raises the standard of living of widows, they will be able to support their children's needs hence reduce school drop out of especially girl children.
