This project will provide South African children living in under-resourced townships the opportunity for a life-changing education, as well as regular health care, daily nutrition, and character/life skills development at Christel House South Africa. We will seek to honor your donation requests, subject to Christel House International's discretion and control as required under federal law.
Educational and economic Apartheid traps millions of South African youth. Half of all students drop out before finishing high school. Only 50% of black grads pass the critical "matric" exam, which determines university/ vocational school admission. "Coloureds" (mixed race) pass at 76%, but 99% of whites pass. Only 10% of graduates-all races-qualify for university, and although they make up 80% of the population, only 1 in 20 black students obtains a university degree. Education creates equality.
100% of Christel House graduates passed the matric exam; At Christel House South Africa, 82% of graduates qualify for university study through the national senior exam. This is double the provincial average.
Our holistic model supports each of our students for 18+ years. This in-depth, whole-child approach integrates rigorous academic learning with nutrition and healthcare, life skills, social support, and college and career guidance. It's a deep commitment that helps students demonstrate that they have limitless potential.
