This project will support the expansion of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) programing for 500 girls and young women (aged 10-24) in rural Buyende district in Eastern Uganda. It intends to contribute towards girls and young women's increased uptake and access to quality, integrated and gender responsive sexual and reproductive health services through greater knowledge and capacity development.
Girls and young women in Uganda do not have the necessary knowledge, and capacities to demand for their sexual and reproductive rights. They do not have a space to express themselves; have no voice on issues related to their own sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), nor are given spaces to participate and influence the policies related to their SRHR. Girls, families and Communities are not aware of their SRHR and do not protect them.
AGHA trains girls and young women to articulate their SRH concerns and needs. Health providers are trained to be able to provide access to youth-friendly, gender-sensitive and reachable ASRH services and information. Print and disseminate IEC Materials(Posters, fliers, T/shirts) and use the media to enhance communication to strengthen advocacy. Train Youth peer leaders to create and mentor groups, and teach them how to lobby for district and nationwide policy changes on issues related to SRH
Girls and young women's knowledge, and capacities strengthened to make informed decisions on their SRH, and demand for and uptake of essential SRH services. Availability of quality integrated ASRH services for girls and young women increased. An enabling, free and safe environment for increased participation of girls and young women and the promotion of their SRH rights created. Governance and coordination for integrated SRH programming at all levels strengthened
