This project will help 3000 Boys and girls encountering their first sex at the age 17 and 16 respectively, causing incidences of teen pregnancy that remain significantly high in the county.About 1 in 5 girls begin childbearing between the ages of 15-19 years, resulting in HIV/AIDS,unsafe abortions causing complications i.e obstetric fistula from such pregnancies since their bodies are underdeveloped for child bearing. Tumkkas plan to use sports as tool for promoting SRH education and awareness
While many boys stay focused on school, girls often have more responsibilities at home. These responsibilities limit girls' opportunities for maintaining social networks hence social isolation which contributes to increased risk of dropping out of school, early marriages and being in situations that leave them vulnerable to unintended teen pregnancy and HIV infection. Just like their female peers, adolescent boys in the target area also engage in un-protected premarital sex.
Strengthened capacities, knowledge and voices for adolescent girls and boys to make informed decisions on their SRH, demand for and uptake of essential ASRH services in Moiben sub-County.Enhanced enabling, free and safe environment, for increased participation of adolescent girls and boys, and the promotion of their SRH rights in Moiben sub-County.Increased use of sports as a tool especially soccer for social advocacy on issues affecting young people and adolescents aged 10-19 years.
We believe that if we increase knowledge and awareness on SRHR and services among adolescents and local community, bolster capacity of Tumkkas CBO as an effective convener, and build greater grass-roots collaboration among local CSOs. Ultimately these outcomes will improve ASRH status of the target community and enhance the gains made so far. Key assumptions in the ToC; local community, adolescents and grassroots CSOs and county officials are willing to participate in and support the project.
