65% of Handcraft cooperatives do not access to training and This project will provide free training to 140 participants for promoting fair trade among Rwanda handcraft sector aiming to develop a strong fair trade crafts. The support will be solution for VSL Growth hence will maintain positive growth of the cooperatives and to support them during hard period and help RWAFAT work to achieve its ultimate goal of improving the living conditions of the crafts members by getting full time job.
The handcraft men and women are known for their traditional skills, arts & crafts but due to forces of competitive market and globalization and also due to deteriorating socio-economic condition of master craftsmen/artisan, these skills are not being pursued by the young generation and The handcraft sector in Rwanda are not well organized due to limited knowledge and experience with fair trade. The production remains insufficient and unavailability the market.
The members do not have the capacity to go to big city to sale their products. RWAFAT provides handcraft trainings , trainings on fair trade and start up kits for theirs cooperatives and coach them on improving their VSL (Voluntary savings and loan) to cooperatives members. the cooperatives members will be trained in handcraft making, tailoring, VSL, fair trade and in agriculture. This project will crate a hand craft shop in Musanze town and pay the exhibition cost for rural members.
The project will train 140 participant and led to the creation of over 140 permanent and 120 seasonal jobs in Handcraft sector in Rwanda of whom 50% are women and equip 35 handcraft cooperatives participants. finance school fees for their children and they will finance health insurance .Majority are from marginalized groups having very low socio economic status. It help access to finance through increased financial education and facilities to access affordable loans for handcraft investment
