Summary

With your help, BEAM Education Foundations will financially support 40 marginalized Myanmar youth to take the international high school equivalency examination (GED) and attend college. BEAM provides academic knowledge and fosters youth participation at the community level within the Thai-Myanmar border area and inside Myanmar. Students need support with the GED exams fees to certify their education level. The GED exam is made up of 4 subjects and a previous "Ready Test" for each subject.

Challenge

Around 3 million Myanmar migrants are living in Thailand. Youth migrants can study in refugee camps or local villages in Migrant learning Centers. However, these schools are unaccredited, and their students cannot certify their educational level to go to college. Additionally, schools in Myanmar have been closed for over two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the political crisis in the country. This situation deprives youth in Myanmar of the right to education and access to universities.

Solution

BEAM has built an educational network to provide the best solutions for the Myanmar youth. This program prepares students to pass the high school equivalency examinations and apply for college. Our students came together on the BEAM-LMS platform to study with the hopes of achieving recognized high school certificates and applying to international programs at universities. Beyond the focus on the GED exam, students increase their social interaction, communication, and critical thinking skills.

Long-Term Impact

BEAM empowers community youth leaders while promoting and widening access to basic, higher, and vocational education. In the long-term, the benefit does not only go to students but also to their communities. After graduating from college, BEAM alumni return to Myanmar to work and help lead the next generation. Furthermore, there is an impact on society by diversifying classrooms, raising awareness of migrant rights, and promoting youth participation and social interaction.
