Dear Donors,
We sincerely thank the donors who have supported the Help 500 Child Labourers Return to School project. Your generosity shows concern for children who are currently working instead of learning. We are also grateful for the encouragement you have given to this effort. At the same time, we kindly appeal for more support so this program can grow and reach more children in need.
Across many communities in Nigeria, children are engaged in difficult labour because their families cannot afford school fees. Some work in markets, farms, brick laying sites, rock breaking areas, sand packing locations, or street hawking. Others serve as house helps or spend long hours begging in crowded areas. These activities prevent them from attending school and place them at risk of injury, exploitation, and long-term hardship.
In our last report, we shared that arrangements had been made for the enrollment of two children. Our team had been in communication with their guardians and the school administration. However, after further discussion, the school authorities explained that the academic session is already in the second term. They advised that the children would not be able to catch up with lessons if they start midway through the term. Instead, they recommended waiting until September when the new academic year begins, allowing the children to begin from the first term and follow the full academic calendar with their classmates.
While this delay means waiting a little longer before enrollment begins, it will give the children a better chance to follow lessons properly and remain in school.
This project will cover school fees for both primary and secondary students, provide uniforms, notebooks, and other learning materials, and support regular school attendance. Volunteers will also work with families and school authorities to help the children remain in class throughout the year.
Although initial support has been received, more resources are still needed to expand this effort and reach more disadvantaged children. We kindly invite additional donors to join this initiative and help more children leave hard labour and return to the classroom.
Sincerely,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
