Sierra Leone is one of the poorest and hungriest nations on earth. It is therefore prudent to support farmers to grow food which would help them eradicate hunger, poverty and joblessness. Many have left farming because of lack of seeds, finance, tools, farm inputs, machines etc. This project would therefore provide them with the above listed materials to revert to farming. This will increase food availability in the villages and the country as a whole.
57% of Sierra Leoneans are poor and could not afford a daily meal. Farmers have abandoned farming making food production very limited in the country. There is only 25% of the fertile soil under cultivation and this has not been enough to feed the nation. Farmers do not have money to buy tools, seeds, lands, food for work etc to expand their farming. This project therefore targets to support 500 farmers at around the country with seeds, tools, machinery and finance to enhance their work.
This project would encourage farmers to revert to farming and it would also help them to do large tracks of lands with the help of machines. Consequently, this will increase food availability thereby eradicating hunger and poverty. The project would also help in job creation which would reduce the massive unemployment rate in the country.
The project would help about five hundred farmers to produce food for their families, communities and the country as a whole. This would also help them to to be able to save seeds for subsequent planting seasons.
This project has provided additional documentation in a DOCX file (projdoc.docx).
