This project changes behaviors and practices around Violence against Women and Girls ( VAW/G) in Nakivale refugee settlement in Uganda. 300 female and 100 male students will be trained on gender inequality and sexual VAW/G. 15 teachers will also be trained on SVAW/G awareness and prevention, serving as facilitators of change. Engage 200 women and other community stakeholders in public events, radio talk shows and debates equip them with knowledge and tools they need to have a lasting impact
In Uganda, conflict and displacement have led to a substantial increase in sexual Violence against Women and Girls and deeply rooted gender inequality. Sexual violence has long been overlooked due to cultural norms. Girls and young women are subject to rape by community members, girls at school are at risk of violence, and widespread traditional dowry practices persist. The community has no support to engage in efforts to address sexual violence.
RTU holds 3 workshops, leadership programs, and training for students. School clubs to organize VAW/G discussions are formed. Hold 6 teachers' trainings on SVAW/G. Hold 1 Symposium with Opinion Leaders and Women's Rights Activists. 10 Community conversations are broadcasted through 3 radio stations. RTU forms 10 male youth groups to facilitate training, awareness-raising, and conversations. RTU holds 5 social dialogue sessions facilitated by religious and traditional leaders.
300 refugee students receive training on VAW/G 15 Teachers, 15 administrators are trained on VAW/G prevention and awareness. 20 grassroots female leaders are trained and engage in awareness . 200 women refugees are trained and form women's groups. 10 participate in symposiums. 50 traditional and religious leaders participate in community conversations. 10,000 refugees in Nakivale are involved in radio community conversations, and receive messaging around sexual violence awareness/prevention
